Frequently Asked Questions
We've outlined the most common questions below. If you don't see your question, contact us and we'll be happy to help.
Who can enrol in the training?
AMTI courses are open to anyone interested in Montessori education, educators, assistants, parents, school leaders and childcare workers. Specific prerequisites apply to Diploma and MACTE-level courses (e.g. Certificate III or equivalent in Early Childhood). Check the individual course page for entry requirements.
When can I enrol in a program?
AMTI offers rolling enrolments, you can start at a time that suits you rather than being locked to a fixed intake date. Once your admission form is approved and registration is complete, you can begin immediately.
I live outside Australia, can I still enrol?
Yes. AMTI's online programs are open to students worldwide. All coursework is delivered online, and most programs do not require travel to Australia. MACTE-level courses may include an in-person residency component, check individual course details.
What are the admission requirements?
Requirements vary by course level. Diploma and MACTE-level courses generally require a Certificate III or above in Early Childhood (or equivalent). For the 6–12 Elementary program, completion of the Montessori Fundamentals Course is required. All students must have a working level of English. Complete the admission form and our team will be in touch.
What is the total cost of the program, and what does it include?
Individual course fees start from $1,950 AUD + GST (Level A) through to $5,790 AUD + GST (MACTE Level C). Fees include access to the online learning platform, video lesson library, faculty support, digital manuals, and your first year of AMTI and Montessori Australia membership. MACTE registration fees are included in Level C pricing for up to 8 students in the organisational package.
Are there any hidden charges involved?
No hidden charges. The fee listed on each course page is the full cost of the course, plus a 10% GST tax may be applicable. For organisations who wish to enrol more than 8 adult learners in the prescribed packages, additional costs per MACTE application may apply. This is clearly stated on the course pages. You may also wish to allow for personal memberships to other organisations, and the purchase of books or journals to help you further expand your knowledge and experience.
Can I get an extension?
We understand that life circumstances can affect your study timeline. Extensions are considered on a case-by-case basis. Contact the AMTI team as early as possible if you anticipate needing more time, and we will do our best to accommodate you.
How good can a distance learning program really be?
AMTI meets or exceeds all MACTE standards for Montessori teacher education. All video instruction is delivered by experienced, qualified Montessori educators presenting best-practice lessons. Students receive comprehensive digital materials and work with dedicated faculty selected for both subject expertise and their ability to guide adult learners. Our programs are accredited and recognised by Montessori Australia.
Will I have to travel?
Most AMTI programs are fully online and do not require travel. MACTE-level courses (Level C) include an in-person residency or face-to-face component which may require travel. For the 6–12 Elementary program, the MACTE course is a workplace-based model delivered within your school or cluster of schools. Check individual course pages for specifics.
Will I be working alone?
No. AMTI programs are designed to build a supportive learning community. Students engage in live virtual sessions, interact with faculty and peers, and have direct access to faculty support throughout. You will never be left to navigate the course on your own.
How long will it take to finish?
Most AMTI courses are designed to be completed in 12–24 months, depending on the level and your pace of study. The rolling start option means you can progress at a rate that suits your life and work commitments.
How much of my personal time will the program take?
Expect to dedicate approximately 8–15 hours per week, depending on the course level and your familiarity with Montessori. Level A (Foundation) courses have a lighter study load; Level C (MACTE) courses are more intensive given the academic and practicum requirements.
Can I work in a childcare centre or teach in a Montessori school based on these courses?
Yes. MACTE accredited courses are internationally recognised and accepted by Montessori programs worldwide, including in the USA, China, and Europe. In Australia, AMTI Diploma courses are fully endorsed by Montessori Australia, however Australian legislation also requires a teacher to hold a recognised teaching degree as a minimum. Further information is available on the Montessori Australia Website.
What if I need to stop the program for a while?
We understand that family, health and life events can interrupt study. Please contact the AMTI team as early as possible and we will work with you to find the best solution, which may include deferring your enrolment.
Do I receive support to complete my assignments?
Yes. All Diploma and MACTE-level students have full access to faculty support via email and live sessions throughout the course. Foundation (Level A) students have limited email access to faculty. Your progress is tracked and your trainers will actively check in with you.
What kind of assignments should I expect?
Assignments vary by course and level, and are designed to connect directly to your classroom experience. You can expect a mix of: watching video lectures and lesson presentations, written reflections and essays, classroom observations, lesson planning and portfolio development, and practical tasks within your workplace environment.
When will I receive my certificate after completing assessments?
Certificates are issued once all assessments and course requirements are confirmed as complete by the AMTI team. Processing typically takes 2–4 weeks after your final submission is approved.
Who are the instructors?
All AMTI instructors are qualified and experienced Montessori educators. They are selected for both their curriculum expertise and their ability to support adult learners in an online environment. Key faculty include our Program Director and subject-specialist trainers with extensive classroom and training experience.
How does AMTI compare in cost to other programs?
AMTI's fees are competitive with other quality Montessori training programs in Australia and internationally. When you factor in the savings on travel, accommodation and time away from work, online Montessori training with AMTI typically costs significantly less than traditional face-to-face programs.
Do I have to complete a practicum?
Practicum requirements vary by course level. Level A (Foundation) courses have no practicum requirement. Level B (Diploma) courses require limited work experience hours (up to 120 hours). Level C (MACTE) courses require a full supervised practicum at a recognised Montessori environment. Full details are on each course page.
Where do I complete my practicum?
Your practicum must be completed at a recognised Montessori environment. AMTI can assist with identifying suitable sites through our national network. For the 6–12 MACTE program, the practicum is workplace-based and delivered within your school or cluster of schools.
When does the practicum start?
The start date for your practicum depends on your course commencement date, the school calendar, and your own readiness. AMTI will guide you through the timing as part of your course orientation.
Will I be supervised during my practicum?
Yes. MACTE-level (Level C) practicum hours include supervised teaching time and onsite guidance from AMTI trainers. Diploma-level (Level B) practicum is self-monitored with a self-reflection assignment to be submitted. Detailed requirements are outlined in each course.
What qualification will I receive?
Level A, MA Endorsed AMTI Certificate of Completion.
Level B, MA Endorsed AMTI Diploma, plus eligibility for Montessori Australia Full Educator Registration.
Level C, MA Endorsed AMTI Diploma and MACTE Accredited Certification, recognised internationally.
Is AMTI accredited by MACTE?
AMTI is fully MACTE accredited. MACTE (Montessori Accreditation Council for Teacher Education) is the world accrediting body for Montessori teacher training organisations. AMTI's Level C courses deliver internationally recognised Montessori certification.
Is my qualification recognised in Australia and internationally?
Can I upgrade from a lower level to a higher qualification?
Yes. AMTI courses are designed with a clear progression pathway. Level A students can upgrade to Level B (Diploma), and Level B students can upgrade to Level C (MACTE). Contact AMTI for credit recognition details.
What technology do I need?
You will need: a reliable high-speed internet connection (minimum 1Mb/s download), a computer running a current operating system (Windows 10+ or macOS), a microphone and speakers or headset, a webcam (built-in laptop cameras work fine), and a modern smartphone for taking and uploading videos where required.
What if I'm not confident with technology?
You don't need to be a tech expert, if you can browse the web and send an email, you have the skills needed. Our platform is designed to be straightforward to navigate. AMTI provides orientation support to help new students get set up and comfortable before their course begins.
What platform does AMTI use for its courses?
AMTI courses are delivered through our dedicated learning management system at amti.au, powered by Tutor LMS. Your course materials, video lessons, assignments and faculty communication are all accessible from your student dashboard once enrolled.
